The year is 2420.
Civilisations across the galaxy have suffered a series of environmental disasters. Some remain planet bound, on the brink of extinction, others have moved their populations into space. The common factor among all of them: the need for water.
In the wilderness of space there is only one profession more dangerous than that of a soldier. Those that follow the Nova Creed. These scavengers living on stations at the edge of known space, awaiting the call to arms when new deposits of ice are detected. Despite the bonds they've built up they compete in incredible races across the stars to be the first to find the ice and take the profit from selling it on to planets in need.
Nova Creed revolves around the space station Elonius V.
This space station has a population of 4321 inhabitants, of various species professions and ranks. It's the oldest and most famous of stations and has developed a notoriety that has united those onboard, even as they compete fiercely against one another.
Elonius V sits on an asteroid far away from any habitable planets. It was originally an old mining colony but was abandoned during the last great galactic war and fell into disrepair. As time went by it slowly became a base for those hunting for ice on the outskirts of space. Soon enough it became home to many of them.
While there are a number of similar space stations, often newer and better equipped, Elonius V has developed a reputation bordering on reverence, which has turned the inhabitants of Elonius V into a community like no other. While Elonius V is falling apart, overcrowded and full of problems its a true home to those living there, and though many of them earn enough to move away again, the bonds they've built up keeps bringing them back.
There are a few dingy bars on Elonius V, but the main hub is a large bar in the heart of the station called The Tea Bowl. The Tea Bowl is owned and run by the illustrious Red, nicknamed “Shoes” who lost his legs out on a race gone wrong. He’s retired now, but keeps the order, and people fear and respect him in equal measure.
To begin with there will be 6 unique species in the lore of Nova Creed. Not only are these aesthetically different, a time consuming but worthwhile feat, they each have a rich backstory that will be woven into the longer term project. While we are keen to promote diversity and collaboration - we can forsee a lot of fun in having your own hang out space for each species.
It's important to remember. The universe is vast. There might be other species we haven't yet come across...
Below you can read about each individual species and the history of their origins. All species currently coexist on Elonius V, but these amicable relationships are not universal.
Maonods are the least technologically advanced race in the known universe. It's been suggested that this is because of the severe lack of ore and metals in the makeup their home planet's surface, which prevented many of the discoveries that helped push other races forward.
This didn't stop them from attempting space travel. Despite their technological lacking, they yearned for the stars and made the best of what they had around. Their original spaceships were actually made from wood, and while they were able to make it into space, these early flights ended in disaster
This did however ensure their presence was noticed by other species’, who soon began visiting their planet. As a result, Siple became a popular stopover spot and many Maonods were able to barter their way aboard more advanced vessels, and eventually spread throughout the galaxy
An androgynous race that can see spectrums of light far beyond our own. Their art is considered the most beautiful thing in the galaxy and is highly sought after, even in times as desperate as this.
Charcot is closer to their neighbouring sun than any other habitable planet on record. This proximity has caused numerous catastrophes over the millenia, seeing the population frequently decimated. As such their aren't many Ilithanons around any more
Originally a fierce warrior race Xylaks set out into space on a quest to conquer new planets.
These first Xylaks ventured far and wide in their goal for total galactic colonisation, only to return to Thurston, with tales of mysticism and a new found reverence for life.
The tales from these warriors became so influential that over the following few hundred years they gave birth to a new religion, which brought an end to their warring ways.
Unfortunately they are sometimes forced to return to their fighting instincts, purely to protect themselves. This is due to a rare and extremly sought after substance that can be found in the eye of a Xylak, and is used for lubrication in certain parts of a ships quantum drive. This has lead to numerous grisly attacks across the galaxy, leaving the Xylaks understandably aggrieved.
A mysterious race of cyborgs whose origin has been lost in the annals of history, unknown even to themselves. Rumour has it that they were originally created as a clone race, but after spreading out through the galaxy they bred with many other species.
This in turn would explain their numerous bodily defects, possibly derived from their clone grown ancestry. These issues mean they require a large amount of robotic reconstruction at birth. Without their computerised and mechanical parts they would not survive.
This also means they are specialists in tech and medicine, sought after throughout the galaxy to help mend all manner of injuries and illnesses
After widespread famine had wiped most of their planet out. The Carlithians sent out 100,000 of their population on a Genesis Arc in an attempt to preserve their race and discover new planets where they could survive.
Many generations lived and died on their arduous journey, but eventually they came into contact with other species and habitable planets. They are now considered one of the rarest species around
The exact location of their home planet was lost long ago during their journey, and what happened to those who were left, is unknown...
Rumidians have the shortest gestation period out of all the races in the known galaxy. They can reproduce full offspring in just 4 short weeks. This compounded their population issues and made a move to space imperative, making them the earliest space venturing society on record
After other races became more prominent, they were intially very distrustful, sometimes openly hostile, and it was a long time before they began to integrate and work alongside other members of the galaxy
Since then their insane work ethic and general capabilities have endeared them more and more, although some latent resentment occasionally causes problems
The origin story of Elonius V. How it became the base of operations for Nova Creed.
Involving the Xylak genocide, and a love story, as well as the first ever race for ice. This is a classic sci-fi tale, already drafted with a great intro into numerous species and the tenants of Nova Creed.
The First Flight of the Maonods
A heart wrenching story about the first disastrous flight into space by the ill equipt Maonod species. Ending on a note of hope with they're first interactions with other space faring species.
Where did the Adalios come from?
Who bred this clone race and to what end? Most excitingly of all how were they able to break free from the manacles of their creator, and spread out across the galaxy as their very own society.
